‘Aisha’ Grosses Rs 260 Million At The Opening Week

The Sonam Kapoor starrer ‘Aisha’ has set benchmarks for the movie-makers with the female protagonist. In spite of not a very big role of the hero in the movie, it has been able to generate quite impressive revenue in its opening week. It has garnered around Rs 260 Million in its first opening weekend.
Inspired by Jane Austin’s 19th century novel, ‘Aisha’ has worked like a magic wand in framing the audiences mind towards liking the movie. The movie is full of fashion, attitude, match-making, romance and fun, such recipe of these many ingredients is a real hit.
With the success of ‘Aisha’, Sonam Kapoor has got another hit immediately after the success of ‘IHLS’. She is flying high on the success rate and she has also sidelined the hottest celebs of the previous year like Bipasha and Katrina. A fashion magazine has ranked her as the hottest Bollywood diva of the year 2010.
The movie was released across 475 theatres across India and 135 theatres overseas. The movie has been able to generate a noticeable box office collection.
Kamal Gianchandani, President, PVR Pictures says, “By such overwhelming weekend collections, the film has set a new benchmark for films with female protagonists. The box office collections are very encouraging.”
He further adds, “The film is doing well in the big cities and the business is quite encouraging in smaller cities as well. Also as compared to Friday, Monday has only seen a drop of 20 percent, which is quite minimal. Usually a film sees a drop of anywhere more than 40 percent on a Monday.”
The movie is produced by Sonam’s younger sister, Rhea and directed by newcomer Rajshree Ojha. The movie do not have any tough competitors till the coming Friday.
