Sony is planning to release a range of faster E-readers such as the PRS-350 Pocket Edition, PRS-650 Touch Edition and PRS-950 Daily Edition in the coming days.
The new ranges of products are laden with E Ink’s latest Pearl display technology for faster touchscreen, 2GB of onboard storage and WiFi/3G. The Daily Edition is only given the wireless facility.
Sony PRS-350 Pocket Edition, PRS-650 Touch Edition and PRS-950 Daily Edition come in 5-inches, 6-inches and 7-inches respectively.
Apart from upgrading the screens and some of the internal memory, Sony is also making improvements to its GUI included with the device. Such inputs include a new Home screen with larger icons and Note Taking software pre-installed with thwe product.
These new e-readers will be able to read different formats such as PDF, ePub, LRF, Doc and RTF files.
The e-readers are lighter and stronger due to aluminum casings and are provided with a stylus for digitally marking up ebooks. The Pocket and the Touch models come with either USB or SD/Memory Stick Pro for downloading content.
The Sony PRS-350 Pocket Edition will be available for $179 in two colours such as pink or silver, while the Sony PRS-650 Touch Edition will cost $229 and come in either black or red. The Daily Edition is expected to be the last to hit the market in November, at a cost of $299.
