Skoda Auto has unveiled its new rally car named as Fabia R2. The car is designed with advanced technology and comes at whopping 62,000 Euros, sources said.

The front wheel drive vehicle has a gearbox that is 'sequential five-gear transmission by Sade' and is equipped with Magneti-Marelli engine electronics.

The Fabia R2 car was reportedly developed with the help of a motor sports specialist Impromat Car. Though the car is based on another popular model, there are some differences in the engine, gearbox and other aspects. The Fabia R2 model has a 1.6 l 16V engine that gives out 132 kw. The 1.6 litre engine (16 valve) produces 177 horsepower.

The car’s maximum torque comes to 194Nm/ 5500 rpm. Skoda says the car was developed and tested extensively for its usage in rallies ‘for two years’.

“It’s great that from now on, we’re offering a rally vehicle for a wider range of customers looking for a reliable and affordable race car. Given our successful tradition and development in motor sports beyond the Czech Republic, the new Fabia R2 is just a logical result of our activities. I’m sure that the model will be as successful as the Fabia Super 2000 already is today. We are convinced that Fabia R2 will help us establishing our positions both in the field of sports as well as in business,” Skoda manager for sales and marketing for the Central and Eastern European region, Jan Hurt was quoted as saying.
