R Madhavan who has been portrayed as a north Indian guy in Tanu Weds Manu said that since he was born in the North, he didn’t find difficulty in relating himself with the character.
 
Though he is often referred to as a South Indian actor, but, he hails from Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur. He said, “I was born in the North and the film has taken me back to my roots.” Madhavan’s character in Tanu Weds Manu is that of an Uttar Pradesh guy.
 
Madhavan’s hit South Indian movies like Alaipayuthey gave him the title of a South Indian actor. He said, “When Anand Rai (director) mentioned that we will be shooting in Kanpur, I was super excited. I had a great time during the shoot. It was like coming back home.”
