India’s own Maruti Suzuki Alto has emerged as the world’s best selling small car in 2010, the first ever Indian car to obtain the status in compact car segment.
The sales of the Alto model sharply increased by 25 percent to touch 3,00,000 units last year. Since its launch in 2000, Maruti is witnessing phenomenal success of the Alto model.
“The K10 has been very well received and has been responsible for the growth that we witnessed last year. We are confident it will do even better this year,” said Mr. Rao, Managing Executive Officer for engineering, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.
The compact car Alto became popular for its fuel economy and proved as a perfect successor of Maruti 800.
The car has pushed back its international rivals like Volkswagen, Fiat and other domestic brands in the compact car segment. The compact car segment in India is booming like never before mainly due to large number middle class and upper class people preferring small cars.
