Leading automaker Volkswagen (VW) has launched Polo 1.6 litre variant just after the entry of its lower capacity version, the 1.2-L Polo. The initial pricing of the model will be Rs 6.16 lakh.
 
The latest1.6 L Polo sports a 4-cylinder petrol engine along with a 5-speed manual gear box. The car is expected to be a better performer with a fuel efficiency of 15.96 km/litre.
 
The new Polo will be manufactured along with the other models at the company's Chakan plant in Pune. The higher-end models will be shipped in to the customers immediately, the company said.
 
"With the introduction of this variant, the Polo becomes even more exciting for our customers as it becomes more powerful and fun to drive while continuing to maintain all the features available in the 1.2-L Polo," Volkswagen India director Neeraj Garg said in a statement.
 
VW launched its 1.2-L Polo with a price tag of Rs 4.8 lakh in March this year.
 
Volkswagen Polo also has been voted the best car in January 2010 by the jurors of the world. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the Toyota Prius were the two other top models of 2010.  
 
The World Car Awards jury stated, “Holding its own in the most competitive market segment, the all-new Polo MkV is one of VW’s star performers. The VW Polo boasts of the best-in-segment packaging and handling, The supermini’s blend of classy looks, reliability and quality has meant it’s consistently been one the market’s best-sellers.”
