Vijay Mallya Steps Down As Mohan Bagan Director
Mohun Bagan director will not be liquor baron Vijay Mallya, but will be his son from now on. It is due to the regulations of Asian Football Confederation (AFC) that he had to step down. However, he will carry on being as the chairman of East Bengal football club.

Sidhartha Mallya has also been chosen as one of the director of the club. A statement said, “Vijay Mallya has resigned from his post as a Director and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of United Mohun Bagan Football Team Pvt. Ltd. His resignation has been accepted by the Board of Directors of the Company in a meeting held on 16th December 2010 at Kolkata."

The dispute of owning both East Bengal and Mohun Bagan clubs simultaneously had made AFC to act so. Cross ownership is not allowed in professional league in Bengal.

Mallya owns Kingfisher Airlines, UB group and is from Bangalore. He did his schooling and college education in Kolkata.
