Toyota-Kirloskar Motor launched its most ambitious project, the hybrid Prius car for the Indian roads during the Auto Expo 2010 at Delhi. The present Prius car is the third generation hybrid car of the company and outshines all the earlier versions owing to its three driving modes – power mode, electric mode (battery) and eco mode.
 
The car has a petrol engine of capacity 1.8 litre and a battery of 60 kilowatt. The car is rated between Rs.26.5 lakh and Rs.27.8 lakh.
 
During the launch of the car, Deputy MD of Toyota, Sandeep Singh said, “Through the launch of Prius, Toyota is keen to demonstrate its commitment to offer the latest eco-friendly automotive technology to its customers in India.”
 
Prius ranks as the world’s most successful hybrid car with a record sale of about 1.5 million. It became the world’s first mass produced hybrid vehicle during the period of 1997.
