Sony's New Patent
Sony’s new patent lets you control your PlayStation 3 games with just about any object you desire.

The patent in question is yet to get approval. Microsoft too has a similar idea called Natal which uses the same technology.

This new controller will let you use virtually anything as a PlayStation Controller such as a coffee mug, a magazine and maybe even a small animal.

This was first revealed at E3 2009.

The patent is a camera that dynamically maps any surface of any object for use in a game, with mention of items such as “coffee mugs, drinking glasses, books, bottles, etc.”

The camera has to capture the object first before it can be mapped into a game. When this is achieved, the camera constantly monitors the movement of the object and controls the player of the game accordingly.

The possibilities this offers are endless. Just imagine batting in a cricket game with an actual bat!
