 Skoda India has launched a new edition of its Fabia with a comparatively lower price tag.
 
The Fabia 2011 edition will be available in three models such as 1.2 litre diesel, 1.2 litre petrol engine, and 1.6 litre petrol. The base petrol version has been priced at Rs 4.19 lakh instead of Rs 5.01 lakh before. The top-end diesel variant costs now Rs 6.49 lakh as against Rs 7.87 lakh before.
 
Thomas Kuehl, Director of Sales & Marketing, said, “We increased the local content in the new Fabia from 15 per cent to 40 per cent. The localisation will be 70 per cent by next year.”
 
According to him, the company expects to sell 14,000 units of the Fabia models per year. The company is also aiming to increase its market share from 3% to 7%.
 
It is said that Fabia will have to compete with rivals like the Maruti Swift, Hyundai i20, Fiat Grande Punto and Honda Jazz. The segment has good demand in the market with about 4.5 lakh sales per year.
 
Skoda may also launch its sports utility vehicle called Yeti within a month.
