The Rakhi festival is very significant among all people in India because on this day the sisters tie a thread on their brother’s arms which signifies love, trust and bond between the two.

This festival is also called as Raksha Bandhan which means bond of security. When a sister ties a thread on her brother’s arms the brother promises to protect the sister from all odds in life and to always support her. Rakhi is a holy thread and any women can tie it to a man to adopt him as her brother, it is not necessary that only blood related siblings share this bond.

The Holy thread signifies a promise of security from the man as a brother. Brothers return their sister’s love and Rakhi by offering gifts and promises to always defend her.

Rakhi is celebrated during a full moon day called ‘Rakhi Purnima’, Purnima means full moon.
