No One Killed Jessica
Director: Rajkumar Gupta
Star Cast: Rani Mukherji, Vidya Balan, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Myra

No One Killed Jessica (NOKJ) is a movie based on the true events of a murder case where a model Jessica Lall was murdered at a night club in Delhi back in 1999 and Director Rajkumar Gupta did an excellent job reliving those experiences in people’s minds through his movie. The movie is based on many actual facts which took place at that certain point of time and talks about model Jessica’s sister Sabrina Lall’s struggle to get justice to her sister.

Though, the movie is based on true facts but still a Bollywood touch is added to the actual story with a character of journalist Meera Gaity played by Rani Mukherji.

The movie starts with Meera Gaity (Rani Mukherji) showing glimpses of our national capital Delhi and tells that how even an insignificant fight on everyday life can lead to a drastic penalty. Later it is shown that Jessica’s sister Sabrina Lall played by Vidya Balan receives a mid-night call which conveys the tragic news that her sister has been shot dead only because of a trivial reason that she didn’t serve drink to the son of a renowned politician. Then starts her fight for justice, where she leaves no stone unturned to send the murderer named Manish (Zeeshan) behind the bars.

However, our corrupted system applies all its force to hide the evidences, to bribe the witnesses and even the cops. Even after seven years of fight, when Manish goes scot free, it determines Meera to take the case on her hands. Then follows a sting operation hence, bringing new hope for Sabrina and new facts about the murder mystery and the case begins to gather public support through media.

This stirring throughout the country compels the case to be opened again and at last the good wins over the evil and Manish receives what he deserves i.e. a life time imprisonment sentence.

The movie successfully stirs people’s emotion and it has something which many people can relate them to. Even though this case is known to most of the people but, still the movie has the ingredients to hold people’s attention till the end. After all, the movie is based on truth and who won’t want to see a criminal to be punished. People who were never aware of the Jessica Lall case will find the facts extremely interesting and intriguing.

The characters of the movie comes to live soon the movie begins and a feeling comes that it’s so much real. The dialogues hits directly to the heart and one will find that its truth which is being talked about.

The music of the movie is worth mentioning and a thumps up for the director for bringing the story to light in such a unique way. Vidya Balan and Rani Mukherji give excellent performances while both depict just the opposite nature. Vidya Balan enacts a timid and silent woman while Rani enacts a wilder, candid and out-spoken woman who can talk her mind out.

Some other notable performances are by Rajesh Sharma as the police officer and also Myra who plays the part of Jessica Lall.
