British actress Keira Knightley had a turbulent Christmas as she broke up with her long time beau Rupert Friend. According to reports, the separation was mutual and they have decided to remain pals forever.
Keira’s father Will Knightley was quoted as saying, "Yes, they have broken up.”
"They were together for quite a long time and it is always hard breaking up. She’s focused on her work,” her father added.
Friend, 29 and Keira, 25 met in 2005 on the sets of big screen adaptation of classic tale Pride and Prejudice.
The reason behind pair’s split is said to be constant media coverage about their relationship. Friend was not happy with media cameras capturing their every move eventually leading to their break up.
A pal said, "Rupert hates the idea of being followed and photographed. Keira partially had to accept it because of her rising profile.”
"It affected the harmony in the relationship. The pressure took its toll and both decided they should go their separate ways. They will remain life-long friends," the pal added.
