Kangna Ranaut’s Tanu Weds Manu character is inspired by yesteryear’s famous actress Madhubala.

The director of Tanu Weds Manu created Kangna’s character based on Madhubala. The movie revolves around two very different natured people Tanu and Manu and how they fall in love in spite of their differences.

Kangna said about her character, "Aanand was very clear about the tone he wanted to adopt for the movie. He told me that he wasn't pitting me against the heroines of our times but instead had Madhubala in mind. Of course he didn't mean that in terms of the look or setting, but in the spirit of the film and the character."

Kangna plays a very different role in this movie compared to her previous movies. She has been portrayed as a small town, bubbly, chirpy and audacious girl.
