Festive bells are ringing as all the cities are making preparations for the grand celebrations of Ganesh Chaturthi which would be celebrated on September 11.

During this festival, the Indian idol makers become very busy making colourful idols of Lord Ganesh. This festival is celebrated to offer praying to Lord Ganesh who is considered as the Lord of happiness and prosperity. It usually falls on the bhaadra or Bhadrapada month according to Hindu calendar.

This year Vinayaka Chavithi and Muslim event Eid-al-fitr falls on the same day which means double celebrations for India.

The festival continues for 10 days and ends with Ganesh Visarjan where the Lord is immersed in sea or river. It is believed that Ganeshji takes away all the pains and sufferings of his devotees along with him while going away.

People make mouth watering sweet dishes during this grand festival which includes modak which is a sweet made of rice flour stuffed with dry-grated coconut and jaggery.
