District 9
District 9
Director: Neill Blomkamp
Cast: Sharlto Copley, Jason Cope, David James

If I am right, the last Sci-Fi movie to the hit the theatre was ‘Transformer 2’, which had really been a disaster. ‘District 9’ will definitely be a welcome break for all those are sci-fi movie buffs and for those who love ‘extra-terrestrials’.

Unlike other sci-fi movie, this is a movie which definitely turns on your thoughts, as the entire concept of aliens have been depicted in an astonishing fashion. As I said earlier, unlike other sci-fi movies, where the aliens try to trouble the earthlings, here you will see that the ‘poor’ aliens are really troubled by the ‘evil’ earthlings. This is an idea which has still not been probed by anyone and hence gives ‘District 9’ a distinct look and feel.

The movie kicks off with an enormous spaceship, which carries millions of extra terrestrials, landing in Johannesburg. The aliens will be allowed to settle down in District 9. But the story moves on as the alien population grows enormously and they start facing the exploitation of MNU (Multi National United). The people, in an attempt to keep away the aliens, try to put forward a new implementation pals by transferring the aliens to District 10.

The story goes ahead with how these extra terrestrials suffer racial discrimination and are subjected to the exploitation of greedy thugs, gangsters and MNU. With the aliens being tagged the ‘pawns’, ‘District 9’, has been essayed in a heart-rending way.
Jason Cope and Sharlto Copley, where the former essays an alien and the latter an officer who oversees the resettlement program for aliens, have essayed their characters excellently.

In short, ‘District 9’ is a delicious treat for the sci-fi lovers.
