‘Chance Pe Dance’ Review – ‘Chance Pe Dance’ Movie Review

Star Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Genelia D’ Souza

‘Chance Pe Dance’ is another typical Bollywood movie where you can get all the masalas and dramas that go into making a popular Hindi movie. The movie is of dance-drama genre and rightly stands as the legendary Bollywood biographies. Ken Ghosh tries to experiment with storytelling style and finally ends up in making an extended version of the music videos which he used to do much prior to his joining of the Indian film.

The movie revolves around Sameer Behl (Shahid Kapoor) and his dreams to be a star on big screen. Much before the release of the movie, there had been similarities drawn between the movie and Shahid’s real life, especially the initial stages of struggle to get into the industry. Sameer as any other person struggling to get into the film industry comes to Mumbai. Despite several sincere efforts he fails to get into any advertisement. He takes up a job in courier service to keep him alive while on the meanwhile continued his chase behind his dream. To add to the distress of our protagonist, he is thrown out of his home and is left completely homeless.

Things start favoring Sameer when he fortunately gets the role of a male lead in the film. It is at this point that Sameer meets the lady-lead in the movie, Tina (Genelia D’Souza). She is chosen the choreographer for the same film. No sooner had he started to live in these golden days that the project is snatched out of his hand. Sameer is pushed into the pool of sorrows and disappointment. He spends his night in his car which of course he had managed to buy during after doing the lungi ad.

Before he is squeezed of all inspiration and desire, Tina plays the moral supporter to the disheartened Sameer. Eventually she inspires him to participate in a reality talent hunt show, winning which shall give the same project back to him. During his screen-test, he delivers his monologue which has nothing extra-ordinary to make you feel it. Then what follows is very much predictable and one need not wait to see the end.

The story line is weak and takes up the theme which has been treated innumerable times in Bollywood. Now, in this era when people are waiting for something unusual and extraordinary like ‘3 Idiots’, ‘Paa’ and ‘Avtaar’, Ken Ghosh takes the risk to be so ordinary and thus the verdict is such. Still, ordinary themes can also do wonder provided they are treated in an unconventional way. But in ‘Chance Pe Dance’ everything is so repetitive that one will hardly carry any memory back home after watching it.

Plot is weak and the script writing is very poor. Dialogues lack the vigor which is required to pull the audience. First part of the movie is manageable but towards the second half, Ken seems to be in a hurry to wind up. Since, it is a dance-driven movie, it should have got some really catchy songs. Instead Adnan Sami and Pritam fail to create any magic. Screenplay by Ken Ghosh and Nupur Asthana lacks the dramatic graph and hence makes the entire plot boring. Shahid has done a good job as usual and he is the lone factor to be watched out in the movie. Genelia is cute though turns to be screamy at some parts of the movie. The couple looks hot and wins the admiration of the audience.

To sum up, ‘Chance Pe Dance’ gives you no chance to dance at all!
