The Sony Cyber-shot W310 digital still camera offers a 9-point autofocus system and includes an intelligent auto, face detection and a smile shutter features. An intelligent scene mode can automatically select from a subset of seven scene modes - twilight, twilight portrait, backlight, backlight portrait, landscape, macro and portrait - as appropriate. The smile shutter feature waits for the moment for the subject to smile and fires the shutter so the moment is not missed. The Sony W310 also includes a four-mode flash strobe with red-eye reduction capability.

The Sony DSC-W310 has 12.1 megapixel resolutions, a Sony Super HAD CCD image sensor with RGB color filter array coupled with 4x wide-angle zoom and optical image stabilization. The 4x zoom lens featured on the DSC-W310 includes a generous wide angle which is ideal for group photos, indoor shooting and dramatic landscapes. The digital still camera Sony Cyber-shot W310/B endorses a Double Anti-Blur which uses the combination of Optical Steady Shot image stabilization and High Image Sensitivity (ISO 3200) which allows higher shutter speeds to be used, so freezing the action. It also employs Clear RAW noise reduction which removes image noise before the image data is compressed. The Images and movies can be recorded on Sony's proprietary Memory Stick Duo, PRO Duo, PRO Duo High Speed, or PRO-HG Duo cards, as well as the more common Secure Digital and Secure Digital High Capacity cards. The Sony W310 includes NTSC / PAL standard definition video output connectivity, as well as USB 2.0 High Speed data connectivity. Power comes courtesy of a proprietary NP-BN1 Info lithium battery pack. It also features a In-Camera Retouch.
