Chinese Zheng Jie defeated the 18th seed Czech tennis pro Nicole Vaidisova 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 on Tuesday, July 1, to enter the semi-final round of the ladies singles event at the ongoing Wimbledon Championships. She will next be playing against the twice former champion, Serena Williams. In the third round, the wildcard Zheng Jie had trounced the top seed Ana Ivanovic. In her recent match, she broke Nicole Vaidisova twice in the opening set when the Czech double faulted on break point both the times.
The Chinese player, on the other hand, saved six break points in the set. Zheng Jie dropped a set for the very first time here after Nicole Vaidisova broke her for the second time in the 11th game of the second set and went on to bring the match to an equilibrium. The Chinese player, however, turned out to be more aggressive and came away racing with the third set even though she required a third match point to settle it when Nicole Vaidisova sent a return into the net.
