India won the first one-day international by defeating England by a huge margin of 158 run at Rajkot. Earlier winning the toss England's captain Kevin Pietersen sent India to bat first. The Indian team set a mammoth total of 387 runs with the help Yuvraj Singh's unbeaten 138 runs and Virender Sehwag's flamboyant 85 runs. Chasing a huge target, the entire England team was bundled out for 229 runs. England conceded highest ever runs defeat and also faced one of the worst defeats.

Yuvraj Singh played a blistering knock by scoring the second fastest century by any Indian batsman. He struck a total of sixteen 4s and six 6s to remain unbeaten on 138 runs. He made 138 runs in just 78 balls. Yuvi also formed two crucial partnerships with Suresh Raina and captain Mahindra Singh Dhoni. He added 89 runs with Suresh Raina for the third wicket and 105 runs with skipper MS Dhoni for the fifth wicket. Yuvraj Singh has been declared the Man of the Match for his exuberating stuff.

The pressure of huge total brought England's down fall. Munaf Patel gave the first breakthrough when he dismissed opener Matt Prior for 4 runs. Left-arm seamer Zaheer Khan took three quick wickets in an electrifying seven-over opening spell to trigger a top-order collapse from England. The responsible knocks from England's side were played by Kevin Pietersen (63) and Ravi Bopara (54). But those were not enough to achieve the 300-plus target. The next match of this seven-match one international series will be played at Indore on Monday.
