Sixteen-year-old Yuki Bhambri defeated Vishnu Vardhan to win his maiden International Tennis Federation (ITF) title at Delhi Lawn Tennis Association on Saturday (April 25). The Delhi boy, Bhambri defeated his opponent in a straight set 7-6 (1), 6-4. Vishnu Vardhan gave though challenge to Bhambri in the first set but the junior Australian Open champion came back strongly in the second set. Both the players were playing their first ITF final.
Although the Andhra boy Vardhan was extremely strong in his serves, but Bhambri kept hitting the ball in and was rewarded for his hard work. After winning his maiden ITF title, Bhambri applauded the efforts of Vardhan and said that concentration and focus helped him to out class his opponent. Talking to media, the Delhi boy said that at the initial stage, he found the game tough but gradually he managed to engage Vardhan in long rallies.
Yuki Bhambri has earlier won the junior singles title at 2009 Australian Open. He had defeated Alexandros-Ferdinandos Georgoudas of Germany by 6-3, 6-1. By winning the title, Bhambri became the fourth Indian after Ramanathan, Ramesh Krishnan and Leander Paes to lay his hands over a junior Grand Slam title. Apart from winning in Australian Open, he has won a title at the Orange Bowl in Key Biscayne in the US.
