The body of late Andhra Pradesh CM Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has been to Pulivendula, his native town in the Kadapa district, where he will be laid to rest with state honours.
The body has been flown in an army helicopter from Begumpet airport in Hyderabad after thousands of people paid their last respects at the L.B. Stadium of Hyderabad.
YSR, who passed away in a chopper crash on Wednesday, will be cremated at his family estate Edupulapaya in Pulivendula tow, near to the burial places of his parents.
The body had to be moved to the airport before the scheduled time as a stampede happened at the Stadium. Police was not able to put a restriction on the surging flow of the mourners, who even damaged several barricades just to see their dear leader.
Several people were injured, some of them seriously, as police used force to control the crowds. As the situation was going out of control, the late leader's son Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy decided to shift the body to the airport.
Even though the body was supposed to be kept till 2 pm, the situation went out of control by 1pm.
Jaganmohan Reddy said that bad weather in Kadapa forced the family to complete the last rites before schedule.
