BS Yeddyurappa is set to head the first ever BJP government in the state of Karnataka on Friday, May 30, 2008. The swearing in ceremony is scheduled to be held at 1.50 pm in the Vidhan Soudha. The city police have made elaborate arrangements outside the Vidhan Soudha as thousands of BJP activists are expected to be present at the venue to witness the swearing in ceremony of Yeddyurappa.

According to sources, along with Yeddyurappa, a 15-20 member ministry will also take oath. Prominent, front-ranking BJP leaders like party president Rajnath Singh, LK advani, Arun Jaitley, Venkaiah Naidu and Sushma Swaraj among others are expected to be present at the swearing-in-ceremony.

The BJP won 110 seats out of 224 but failed to gain simple majority by three seats. The BJP has none the less gathered the support of the independent candidates to constitute the government in the state. The Congress has elected Mallikarjuna Kharge, the President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, as leader of the opposition.
