Belgian teenager Yanina Wickmayer advanced to the US Open semi-finals on Wednesday. She defeated Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine by 7-5, 6-4.
 
Wickmayer will meet Danish ninth seed Caroline Wozniacki in the semis. Wozniacki, the youngest player in the top 20 at age 19, has been the highest player in the rankings never to reach a Grand Slam quarter-final.
 
The 11 time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams and Belgian Kim Clijsters will meet in Friday's other semi-final.
 
Wickmayer said,"Playing the semis in a Grand Slam is great. It’s amazing. It's all so very exciting."
 
The 19-year-old Wickmayer who was 4-1 down in the second set, advanced into the next round winning the last five games .The game lasted for one hour and 41 minutes.
 
Wickmayer said,"I missed a few opportunities. I was pretty mad at myself but I kept on fighting, kept hanging in there and I was able to come back."
