Yamaha Motor Company Ltd is planning to introduce gearless scooters in India and is presently studying the market for this. Pankaj Dubey, national business head, sales and marketing, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt Ltd, said 'This is a lucrative segment and we are studying the market to see which ones we can offer to our Indian customers.'

Mr Dubey informed that the Yamaha Company has gearless scooters from 50 cc to 500 cc range. Sanjay Tripathi, department head, product planning and strategy, Yamaha India said that the company can select any of its gearless scooters like Jog, Tmax or Majesty depending upon which one has the maximum demand.

Company officials said that Yamaha aims for a 10 per cent market share in India by 2010, but simultaneously accepted that they have been a little slow because of low visibility. The focus at the moment, therefore, is to bolster the dealer and service network through the new model offering. As per reports, Yamaha is busy hiking the capacity of its Surajpur plant in UP in order to prepare itself for future projects, including gearless scooters.
