Giving direct competition to internet’s dominant video channel Google’s YouTube, is Yahoo Incorporation’s photo sharing site Flickr. The Yahoo site Flickr expanded into the domain of providing video content through its new service. Flickr debuted in video technology from late evening on Tuesday, April 08, 2008. The move is clearly directed at Yahoo catching up with the Internet giant Google in a big way, which runs YouTube.
Flickr will provide the video service in eight languages including English, French, Italian, German, Portuguese, Korean, traditional Chinese and Spanish. Flickr has already made a huge following of people who use the site for uploading their pictures. This fierce loyalty is considered to be utilized for the expansion of the new service of uploading videos as well. Flickr through its privacy policy will also allow videographers to limit the access of their videos if they wish to do so. Flickr believes that its USP is that it provides a more personal touch than the many other websites that feature video.
