SearchScan, a new technology that Yahoo will be adding to its search engine will now warn users whenever they are about to click a website containing viruses, spyware or spam. SearchScan that employs security firm McAfee's SiteAdvisor technology will alert netizens about ‘potentially risky sites’. This new service on Yahoo search engine will get turned on by default and will give off an on-screen alert. Yahoo's Priyank Garg said that the main objective behind introducing this technology was to help users in making more informed judgment about the sites they surf on the Internet.
Yahoo's SearchScan will update users basically on three kinds of threats. It will inform about websites that can cause damage to the user’s computer or instate malware just by visiting it. The new Yahoo technology will also exhibit caution sign alongside the search results, incase the website houses harmful software like viruses, spyware or adware. Thereafter, the users will be alerted about scanned sites that send unsolicited e-mails or inappropriately share e-mail addresses with third parties.
