Yahoo on Thursday (May 21) introduced its social news site Buzz in India. The company stated that over 60 percent of Internet users in India are below the age of 25 years and the popularity of Internet has been rising day by day. Yahoo found out that there is a lot of interest among users in social media tools such as Buzz. Yahoo already operates Buzz social news site in US and India became the first market outside the US to get the service.
India is one of key markets for Yahoo and the company often tests out new technologies in the country. Yahoo tested its new Glue search concept in India before launching it in the U.S. According to head of audience at Yahoo India, Frazier Miller both US and Indian markets share a similarity in terms of use of the English language which enables the company to launch its product quickly in these markets.
Yahoo's Buzz social news site identifies the top news stories and blog posts based on user votes and search patterns. According to the company, the new site will help Yahoo to understand people's interests and improve the relevance of content on its Indian home page. Buzz social news site will also allow the publishers to deliver their best content to Yahoo's broad and diverse audience. So far, Yahoo Buzz in US has received content from over 20,000 publishers worldwide. In India, Yahoo Buzz already features content from over two dozen local publishers.
