India maps at in.maps.yahoo.com, which now offers maps in local Indian languages as well as walking directions. Introduced for the first time in India, this internet service (apart from English) will be available in Indian local languages like Hindi, Tamil, Gujarati, Marathi, Bengali, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam and Punjabi. The introduction of local language maps and walking direction services by Yahoo! India comes after its recent proffering of driving directions.
With Yahoo local language maps, people can now search for directions across 179 cities, 4,767 towns, and 226,114 villages in the country. Users can walk to their desired destinations with a simple walking route provided by Yahoo! India maps. These directions can also be sent to a mobile phone in the form of an SMS message or e-mail. The Yahoo! India Maps will display the important landmarks in any Indian town, city or village and will also point out nearest utility services like ATMs, petrol pumps, restaurants, hotels, etc.
