In ongoing WTO meeting it seems services are not going to form an essential mention. Reportedly, India has shown its interest in this regard as for India, liberalization of services and smooth movement of service professional etcetera are of vital interest.

Earlier, Kamal Nath, India’s trade and commerce minister, has said that India will ensure that the subject comes in the discussion. However, the meetings have been postponed time in and time again manner. And, WTO chief Pascal Lamy has postponed the meeting without putting a date to it.

India has long been arguing for the liberalization of services, which according to it is against the goal of WTO where free movement of trade and commerce is assured. And, here, talks are centered on the movement of commodities only. Also, India’s contends liberalization of services is good for global economy.

The issue of liberalization which was scheduled to be discussed on Tuesday has continuously been postponed and there is likelihood of it getting ousted from the forum. Here, India wants greater commitments from rich nations to enable binding rules on outsourcing, and smooth movement of professionals.
