Standard Chartered Plc has launched the world’s first 150-dollar bank notes on Wednesday, to mark the 150th anniversary of the bank in Hong Kong.
Standard Chartered, one among the three banks of Hong Kong, which issues notes, has launched 1 million 150-Hong-Kong-dollar notes, each of which is worth $19.35.
These notes have been offered to the people as collectors’ items with each priced at a minimum of 280 Hong Kong dollars.
Some of these 150-dolalr-notes contain lucky numbers like 888888, which the bank plans to auction at a minimum bid of 3,000 Hong Kong dollars per note. The bank has also disclosed that the money raised via the sales of these notes will be provided to the local charities as a “creative tribute" to the citizens Hong Kong.
Standard Chartered started functioning in Hong Kong in 1859, but it came into existence in 1853. This is the oldest of the note-issuing banks in the city. Two more banks issue notes - HSBC Holdings Plc and Bank of China Ltd.
