World Bank Approves Rs,1,500-Crore For Punjab Road Project

According to Punjab State Public Works Department Minister, Parminder Singh Dhindsa, about Rs. 1,500 crore has been approved by the World Bank for the Punjab State Road Sector Project. This project has been designed so that 1,100 km of the roads in Punjab can be given a better look.
 
"Under this project, about 1,100 km of roads would be improved. The project has been divided into two phases. The phase one that comprised civil works on nearly 700 km of roads is already underway," said Dhindsa.
 
According to the Public Works Department Minister, the PSRS project is the largest of all the road sector projects that have ever been implemented in Punjab.
 
According to him, about Rs. 288.8 crore has been spent by the state on this project during the 2008-09 fiscal.
 
"The project is expected to be completed by June 2012," he added.
 
Parminder Singh Dhindsa has also added that, "On the resettlement and rehabilitation side, more than 95 percent of the land (46.82 acres out of the total 49.6 acres) under this project has been acquired through private negotiations”.
