In the Union Budget 2009-10 which was presented by the finance minister Pranab Mukherjee, more emphasis has been placed on providing better amenities to women and children. Concerns on security related to national food have also been taken care of.
Women And Child Developments
- Focus on women self help groups
- 22 lakhs of self groups of women are active currently. The aim is to link such self help groups to banks.
- Corpus fund for such schemes to be increased to Rs 500 cr in this fiscal
- Aim to reduce female illiteracy rate to be 50% in 3 years
- New scheme to give interest subsidy to poor students for pursuing any recognised course
National Food Security
- BPL entitled by law for Rs 25 kg of rice/wheat at Rs 3 kilo
- Bharat Niraman allocation increased by 45%
- PM Gram Sadak Yojana allocation up to Rs 12000 cr
- Indira Gandhi Awas Yojana allocation increased 63%
