Wipro Technologies' business unit, Wipro Infotech has developed an integrated software for the cops to combat crime and terror. In a statement to media, the company said that the software application is in a pilot stage. The software will enable the real-time information sharing between the various police units. All activities related to the day-to-day functioning of police departments, including the back-end processes of administration, finance and stores will be covered by the online application.

Commenting on the application software, Wipro's general manager for government and defence, Ranbir Singh said that information technology will contribute hugely in combating crime and terror. The software has been developed to ease the tasks of administration and record-keeping which will bring operational efficiency across the police department. There is also a citizen interface incorporated in the software through which complaints can be raised and the status of a lodged FIR (first information report) can be tracked.

The user interface can display content both in English and the local language. Apart from these, there are operational modules in the software which maintain records in police stations and agencies dealing with crime, law and order, wireless, traffic, intelligence and counter-intelligence. After the introduction of the new software, the police departments across the country will find themselves one step ahead of criminals.
