The scientists at MIT have planned to revolutionize the navigation system by making it friendly and predictive using a friendly Affective Intelligent Driving Agent (AIDA). Those are reminiscent of movie robots fixed on an articulated neck.

AIDA robot concept had been devised by a group of institutions like the Personal Robots Group at the MIT Media Lab, America's Electronics Research Lab and MIT's SENSEable City Lab. The robots are being designed in such a manner that they can show emotions like the humans. Even the Winking AIDA Robot can smile at you and warn if you are going in a wrong direction.

The scientists are programming the AIDA robots in such a particular way that it can even wink you at the doorstep of a hotel and provide route map for you on the way.

This has been designed based on the expressive behaviour and learning mechanism that it has got from the programmers. The robots can memorise the commuters’ behaviour and can help in your daily navigation.

The winking robots collect data about local events and traffic conditions and will route around those potential obstructions like filling up of petrol, going to a restaurant etc. Currently AIDA in cars can help the commuters like other traffic data aggregators such as Inrix and Navteq, which include event data and convey the information of the event in advance.

Previously the car maker Nissan had exhibited a robotic assistant in its Pivo 2 concept car at the Geneva auto show.
