Microsoft’s XP SP3 (Service Provider 3) pack has finally arrived, with Microsoft releasing to the manufactures it’s final code on Monday, April 21, 2008. The public version of Windows XP SP3 will be made available from April 29 and could be downloaded via the web. After a gap of four years, Microsoft has released its latest Service Provider Pack. The last service pack for Windows XP, SP2 was released in August 2004.
The latest Windows XP Service Provider 3 will contain minor performance and stability enhancements. One of the major security feature included in SP3 is Network Access Protection (NAP), to assist organizations that use Windows XP to take advantage of new features in the Windows Server 2008 operating system.
Windows XP SP3 is believed to be the last updated service provider for Windows XP. The new service provider pack will also make it easier for network administrators to manage SP3 machines alongside Windows Vista PCs. The upgrade provides support for Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2) and the Peer Name Resolution Protocol (PNRP), both used in Windows Vista among other things.
