The United States magazine Newsweek has awarded actor Will Smith with the title of the ‘Most Powerful Man In Hollywood’. This honor is being presented in recognition of the fact that almost each of Smith’s film has witnessed a first-weekend gross of about 30 million dollars or even more. Somewhere over 20 million dollars is what the 39-year old Will Smith charges for each of his film and a media report states that throughout his entire career the actor must have generated box-office sales of over five billion dollars internationally.
I Am Legend, the last movie of Will Smith in 2007 had opened generating a whooping 76.5 million dollars. The movie that set the record for a US December opening for any film, can also be said to be the personal best of Smith. So dominant was the position of Will Smith in Hollywood that it caused an industry insider to remark, ‘Will Smith is the only thing in this business - the only thing - that represents a guaranteed opening weekend.' With Smith next movie Hancock slated for a July 3 release, people are expecting a similar kind of response this time too.
