With the rumours of a hike in the price of food items due to lack of rain, the government has decided to postpone the decision of exporting wheat. But the overseas sale of other wheat products like refined flour (maida), semolina (sooji) and flour.
According the sources from government, the export of non-Basmati rice will also be decided in a short while.
The ministry of commerce has give approval for the export of just 6.5 lakh tons of products from wheat. Sources added that the decision will be notified to the Director General of Foreign Trade in a short while. Monitoring of these exports will be done by Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority so that the shipment ceilings do not exceed the suggested level.
The panel of ministers which were the part of previous government had given approval for the export of about 20 lakh tons of wheat and wheat products. But the current postponing of the export has been made under the Food Security Act so that the Indian citizens will not suffer from food shortage.
