Pristine and enchanting, Wayanad is one of the fourteen districts in Kerala, sited in the arresting mountainous plateau in Western Ghats. Enclosed by the dense forest, deep jungles and mesmerizing valleys, it is fondly known as the greener side of Kerala. As per records, the region was formerly known as Mayakshetra or Maya's land. Later, the name changed into Mayanad, which finally evolved to Wayanad. However, if folk etymology is to be believed, the name Wayanad is a combination of Vayal (paddy) and Naad (land), thus making it 'The Land of Paddy Fields'.
 
The district of Wayanad constitutes the enthralling Chembra, Banasura, Brahmagiri Mountains and the awe-inspiring river, Kabini and its three tributaries - Panamaram, Mananthavady and Kalindy. Boasting of a salubrious climate, Wayanad poses as an ideal getaway for nature lovers and adventure freaks. Since a major portion of the region is dedicated to plantations, forests and wildlife, the places serves as a natural abode for wild life.
