All the pains and sweats of Walton Eller proved fruitful when he won the gold medal in the Men’s Double Trap at Beijing Olympics. His hard work was already seen in the qualification rounds, when he hot 145 targets out of 150; with this, he also set a new Olympic qualification record. Francesco D Aniello of Italy came second in the qualification rounds with four points lesser than Eller. Jeffrey Holguin (140) of US, Hu Binyuan (138) of China, Richard Faulds (137) of Great Britain and Russell Mark (136) of Australia were the other four shooters who got entry in the finals.
Though Eller missed five targets in the final round, he managed to get good score to set a new Olympic record. In fact, this 26-year-old from Texas has certainly made his mark by earning 190 scores in finals, beating the record of 189 targets hit by Ahmed Almaktoum of UAE. Both Aniello and Hu Binyuan hit 46 targets in the final, and received the silver and bronze medals respectively with final scores of 187 and 184.
