News Corp. seasoned veteran Robert Thomson will be the new Managing Editor of the Wall Street Journal. This was announced by the Wall Street Journal, according to a statement that was released on Tuesday. Thomson will follow Marcus Brauchli who resigned last month. Thomson was selected without any dissent and was endorsed by the committee which was formed in the month of December when the News Corp. had assumed charge of Dow Jones which is the parent company of Wall Street Journal and Market Watch.

This special editorial committee was formed to look at the Journal's functioning and the ownership transition. According to a statement that was released, Dow Jones said that since Mr. Thomson had an excellent career as a financial journalist, foreign correspondent and editor, this job will be just perfect for him. He will not only serve as the Managing Editor but will also take up the job of editor-in-chief of Dow Jones. He will, henceforth, look into the news section of the Wall Street Journal and the editorial operations of Dow Jones News Wires.

Robert Thomson belongs to Australia and has already served at the Times of London in the capacity of editor. He has also worked as the editor of the U.S. edition of Pearson's PLC's Financial Times. Now, with Thomson becoming the Managing Editor of the Wall Street Journal, it is expected to lead to some changes at the Journal. He intends to shift the focus towards the shorter stories and some general news.
