The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has decided to offer people a ride on Vayu Vajra Volvos (bus) for only Rs five on Sundays and other holidays. The idea is to promote luxury public transport service. This announcement of temporary reduction of fares of Volvo buses was made by transport minister, R Ashok on 29 September, 2008.

The minimum fare will be Rs five whereas the maximum fare will be Rs 20 on all routes of Bengaluru city. Only the route to Bengaluru International Airport has been denied of such facility. This facility will be available to the common people for a total of 83 days in a year. The reduced fares of Volvo buses depend on the reduction in per kilometre fare on holidays.

The passengers will be charged a fare of Rs five, where the fare was Rs 10 earlier. Where the fares were as high as Rs 45, the special fares will be Rs 20, a reduction of 56 per cent. The reduced fares are divided into different slabs starting from Rs five to Rs 20. At present, there are 140 Vayu Vajra Volvos in Bengaluru operating under BMTC.
