Swedish car giant, Volvo has announced to unveil its first ever accident proof car by next month. The new Volvo S60 will drive itself in traffic by using radar to control the distance. As per the company sources, the car with automatic brakes will go on to market in 2010.

While interacting with the media, Volvo's safety specialist, Thomas Broberg said that the new technology developed for Volvo S60 will enable the company to accomplish the long term vision of manufacturing cars that should not crash. The company will showcase its latest S60 at next month's Detroit motor show.

According to Broberg, the company aims to build accident-proof Volvo cars so that no one gets killed or injured. He added that by 2020 they will able fulfill the mission. The new Volvo S60 can stop itself upon sensing that a collision is about to happen either a car or a pedestrian.

The company said that the vehicle will be endowed with a sophisticated cruise control system designed to automatically maintain a safe distance from the car in front. The radar unit in the car's grille will not only detect what is in front of the vehicle, but how fast it is moving. When the car believes that there is an imminent threat of a collision, a light flashes on a windscreen display in front of the driver at the same time along with an audible warning, the brakes are applied automatically.
