Volkswagen, the German car manufacturer, has announced that it has plans to launch its premium hatchback, Polo, in India by early next year. Volkswagen has also revealed that the sedan model will hit Indian market by end of this year.

"The company is looking at an 8-10 percent market share in four-six years," Jochem Heizmann, member of Volkswagen's board of management, told the media during the sidelines of the annual convention of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

But details on the pricing of the car have not been disclosed.

The Indian car market currently has Passat and Jetta sedans along with the premium Phaeton and sports utility vehicle Touareg from the company.

According to the company statement, Polo will be pitched against Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai i10.

Currently, the company owns two assembly lines in Maharashtra, one in Pune and another in Aurangabad. The company has announced that the new Polo will be rolled out from the new plant in Chakan, near Pune, where the Passat is assembled.
