Vodafone Essar, the leading cellular services provider in India, has announced the launch of its first solar powered phone VF 247 in India. The handset will be available next month at the price of Rs.1500.
 
The new solar powered phone VF 247 is designed to cater the rural masses that prefer low-end handsets.  Also, such phones can be very much useful during frequent power cuts in rural areas.
 
The VF 247 handset can be charged by keeping the set exposed to sun light. The set can also be charged in a room under normal daylight with special support of hardware and software that is powered by Sun Boost technology.
 
The Vodafone set comes with features like FM radio, colour screen and a powerful torch light. It offers eight days of standby time and four hours of talk time.
 
Currently, Vodafone has 65 % of rural network coverage which is second highest in India.  It aims to increase the penetration through such initiatives.
