Dmitri A Medvedev, shortly after being sworn in as Russia’s President has nominated the country’s former President Vladimir Putin as his Prime Minister. Medvedev, a Kremlin insider and lawyer, was sworn in as the third President of Russia on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 inside the Grand Kremlin Palace. Putin, a former KGB officer who had presided over Russia’s economic revival while rolling back civil liberties, is one of the most popular individual in Russia.

Many political experts feel that Putin’s move to the no. 2 post will keep him politically prominent. In fact, this latest political move has many wondering as to who will really hold the country’s reins. The immensely popular former KGB spy was barred from being a Presidential contender due to term limits. Putin hence anointed his personal favorite Medvedev to be sworn in as the Russian President. After nominating his mentor for prime ministerial post, Medvedev remarked that ‘Russia is respected once again’.
