Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is in China on a three-day itinerary. The visit is aimed at giving a boost to the political and economic ties of the two nations.
Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi received the Russian PM at the Capital International Airport, Beijing.
According to press reports, several important bilateral deals may be signed on Tuesday during the meeting of Putin and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao. These deals also include tie ups in the energy field.
Putin will also be holding talks with the Chinese President Hu Jintao and will also attend the summit convention of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, which is a security group of six Central Asian states.
The visit is Putin's first to China as prime minister and follows four previous visits to China as Russia's president.
Russia and China may also be coordinating the international diplomacy, particularly on the nuke issues related to Iran and North Korea.
