A railway announcer named Vishnu Dattaram Zhende and RPF head constable Jullu Yadav have received Rs.10 lakhs each for their act of bravery during the 26/11 Mumbai terror atrocities. Zhende helped hundreds of people to escape the terror attack on the Chhattrapati Shivaji terminus on that fateful Wednesday night in India's financial capital. On the other hand, a Railway Police Force (RPF) trooper, Jullu Yadav fought valiantly with the gunmen to save the lives of the people. Both of them got a standing ovation while receiving the reward from Railway Minister Lalu Prasad.
A cheque of similar amount has also been awarded to the family of another RPF head constable, M.N. Choudhry, who was killed by the terrorists at the crowded station. Another three railway security personnel who were injured during the turmoil received Rs.50, 000 each. On November 26 night, two heavily armed gunmen entered the busy Chhattrapati Shivaji terminus and opened indiscriminate firing which killed 58 people and injured 95 others.
During the firing at the railway terminus, announcer Zhende spared no time to urge the people over loud speaker to instantly leave the station. By exercising such a witty tactic, the announcer saved the lives of several people present at the station. India's financial capital was severely hurt by the 10 terrorists who came from Pakistan and landed on Mumbai coast on Wednesday night. The terrorists took over two luxury hotels and a Jewish centre. The mayhem ended on November 29 leaving over 170 people dead.
