Poll recount in Zimbabwe has witnessed violence in several parts of the capital Harare on Wednesday. It is to be noted that Zimbabwe is facing problems of high inflation, poverty and unemployment and there are strong protests against President Robert Mugabe. The elections conducted are said to be controversial and the court had ordered recounting in 23 areas. The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) on Wednesday said that both the ruling party (Zanu - PF) and the opposition (MDC) have won one constituency each in the 23 areas.
The opposition alleged that the violence has the support of the government and has claimed the life of 10 people. The ruling Zanu-PF has lost 21 constituencies where recounting took place after the opposition filed complaints of irregularities by the government. Initially it was declared that the MDC had won 109 seats whereas Zanu-PF emerged victorious in 97 seats.
According to the reports, nearly 28 homes were burnt in northwest Harare and many people are said to be attacked. Meanwhile, world leaders have asked the Zimbabwean government to end the crisis in the once prosperous nation of Africa.
