The Launceston Steam Railway in Cornwall, England has developed the vintage Model T Ford car into a car-train. The car has been transformed into a self-powered locomotive that it does not require any steering. The car-train has a powerful engine which can pick the speed of 60mph. However, the modified car-train can accommodate only four passengers. At present, the car-train operates at the Launceston Steam Railway.
Informing about the concept of converting the vintage model into a car-train, the Managing Director of Launceston Steam Railway, Nigel Bowman said that the car was originally brought to the workshop at the railway station to have modified brakes fitted. The team at the workshop thought that it will be a nice way to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Launceston Steam Railway by featuring an iconic road car running on railway wheels.
It is said that the Ford Motor Company built its fortunes on the back of the Model T car's creation on September 27, 1908, at the Piquette Plant in Detroit, Michigan. The model is still considered to be the first affordable automobile that put America on wheels. T Ford car had been named as the world's most influential car of the twentieth century by an international poll conducted nine years ago.
